A multifaceted musician: clarinet, conducting and teaching.

As a soloist he has performed on major European stages under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Gianandrea Noseda, Juanjo Mena and Neville Marriner, and alongside ensembles such as the Brodsky, Tokyo, Alexander and Diotima quartets, or soloists such as Lluís Claret, J. C. Garvayo, Tasmin Little and Josep Colom. Notable among his appearances are the City of London Festival, the Festival Classique in The Hague, the San Francisco Chamber Music Series, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Liceo de Cámara in Madrid.

He currently holds the position of principal clarinet of the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, a post he was selected for by Lorin Maazel in 2006. He was also principal clarinet and co-founder of the Orquesta de Cadaqués, principal clarinet of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, and guest principal clarinet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra, Covent Garden and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, among many others.

He is the founder and director of the Moonwinds ensemble, created in 2006, and since 2009 has directed the International Festival «Residencias de Música de Cámara» in Godella (Valencia). In November 2020 he presented «Moonwinds Simfònic», a cross-disciplinary orchestral project with a pedagogical strand connecting international figures with young talents.

He has performed much of the solo clarinet repertoire and premiered concertos by composers such as Sir John Tavener, Joan Guinjoan, César Cano, Jesús Torres, Mauricio Sotelo, Isidora Zebeljan, Paul Barker, Sánchez-Verdú and Houtaf Khoury, as well as numerous chamber works by Casablancas, Calandín, David del Puerto, Blai Soler, Laura Vega, Voro García, Albert Guinovart and Dominic Murcott. He will soon premiere concertos dedicated to him by Jorge Grundman and Miquel Ortega.

He has more than 25 recordings to his name. Highlights include his three recordings of Mozart's Concerto K. 622; the Trio op. 114 and Quintet op. 115 by Brahms with the Tokyo Quartet, Lluís Claret and Josep Colom (Harmonia Mundi); and the concertos and symphonies of C. M. von Weber with the Berliner Camerata (IBS). He conducted the concert marking the 20th anniversary of the death of Joaquín Rodrigo at the Palau de les Arts, later released on the CD «Soleriana» (IBS) and acclaimed by international critics. In 2024 he released Brahms's Sonatas op. 120 with Josu de Solaun for Sony Classical, including the Serenade Suite.

His interest in recovering the Spanish and Valencian musical heritage is reflected in his editions of scores and recordings. He is currently working on the recovery of two unpublished ballets by Vicente Martín y Soler, presented in 2023 at the Auditorio de Castellón and released on disc by Aria Classics, earning the «Melómano de Oro» award.

Among his heritage recordings are «Música española en el exilio» (Tritó), «Le jour de l'an» (IBS), «Rossini y España» (Harmonia Mundi), «Una cosa rara» (Harmonia Mundi) and «En estil popular» (IBS). More recently he has released «Jazz Impact», «Benet Casablancas: The Clarinet Music» (Columna Música) and new recordings with the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana and the Berliner Camerata. Upcoming releases include «Pipe & Flamingoes», a concerto dedicated to him by Isidora Zebeljan, recorded with the Belgrade Philharmonic and Paul Daniel.

He was recently honoured by the Valencian Music Academy as «Insigne de la Música». He teaches at the ESMUC (Barcelona) and Trinity College of Music in London, and regularly gives masterclasses at institutions including California State University, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Royal College and the Royal Academy in London, and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow.
